A Family Tent Makes Your Camping Trip Extraordinary

Consider a family tent if you are pondering any kind of outdoor camping vacation. Ordinary tents sleep only a few people, and have no room for gear or luggage. Furthermore, smaller tents have little spare room and often no room to even stand. For camping with the whole family, you need a tent that provides adequate room for sleeping and storage.

Family-sized tents can also provide some privacy by using dividers or walls inside the tent. Think of a small home converted into a tent, and you will have a good idea of what a family sized tent looks like.

Typical sizes for family-style tents are 18 to 20 feet long, and 14 to 16 feet wide. Tents this large are often subdivided into two or three individual compartments or rooms. However the walls of these rooms are as thin as the tent material itself. There is visual privacy, but sounds will definitely be heard by every family member in the tent.

Tents large enough to house a family can typically hold six to eight persons. It can hold many more people if they are standing, but the size of the tent is measured in the amount of people that can sleep on the floor. Putting the maximum amount of family members in the tent might be cramped, so consider renting or buying a tent with a capacity larger than the number of people to sleep inside it.

These tents often come with extra features. One such feature is a screen porch. This is an entrance area enclosed with mosquito netting. Campers can remove muddy shoes or boots here before entering the interior rooms of the tent. Gear or other non-food items may also be stored in the tent's screen porch. Even with the screen porch closed, the main tent door can be opened to allow breezes to enter.

If you want to take the kids on a grand wilderness adventure, rent a tent and go. Remember to practice assembling and disassembling it at home, though. You don't want to be reading the instructions for erecting your family tent in the middle of a rainy forest!
